An excerpt from a letter: big thank you and please forward this to those who helped make the clothes and jackets possible. I have tears of joy and relief and gratitude as I write this - clothes and warm boots and jackets came for the kids yesterday. The delivery person left them by our back door - we must have been gone to church to practice singing and drumming for a memorial service that will take place this weekend. 2007 was such a hard year. I pray that 2008 will be better and that this is a sign of good things to come. With these new clothes now the kids can play outside without having to come in crying because their feet are so cold. The coats are great and all have hoods that will help keep them warm from the cold prairie wind that blows here so often. Thank you again for the help from a very grateful mother. Donating! One of the things that we love about our program is that you can make it your own program! When you send goody bags, warm clothing, toys, you know that something you put your heart into choosing, will be placed directly into the hands of a child. We don't call it Warming Hearts for nothing! Financial donations will go towards the program we are currently serving which will change throughout the year. We provide warm clothing and heating funds in the winter, school supplies in the fall, and year-round, emergency needs and projects that support the well being of the children and families on reservations in South Dakota and other areas suffering great need in the Midwest. Because we can buy many goods and materials wholesale, your ten dollar donation breaks down like this: $10.00
donation Even though $1.00 of your donation is used for administrative costs, $9 is worth $14 because we can buy in bulk. This winter we were able to purchase approximately 200 pairs of shoes that retail for $60.00 for $15.00 a pair. Administrative costs include web site management, gas funds to deliver goods, promotion, and will only ever cover costs associated with furthering our work. Changing Winds GUARANTEES that no Changing Winds volunteer or staff member receives a salary or personally benefits in any way from donations received for Warming Hearts. Every penny, 100% including administrative costs, is used to benefit the lives of the children. Thank you for making our work possible, which warms our hearts each day through the phone calls and letters we receive from both givers and receivers.
