Warming Hearts

Welcome!!!
Below you will find many ways that you can easily support
the well being of the
Lakota, Nakota and Dakota children in
South Dakota.

Excerpt from a letter from Pine Ridge:

Anyway they were saying that it is so cold and they cannot get to the people fast enough and that one family were burning their clothes to keep warm.

People could never imagine the hardships here. Running Water, Hot water, lights, and having a bathroom are things taken for granted. I've been waiting for 8 years for running water, lights, and a septic tank. I have been vandalized 3 time and cleaned out, and in the last month my electric box was stolen. Everyone is struggling. Don't get me started. LOL….

The letter above was written by a person who has a good job, but also has taken in so many relative’s children that she has many mouths to feed.

People always ask us if it is really as bad as that on the reservations and the answer is, for some people, YES!

The donations we request can be provided by almost anyone. A package of diapers, a bottle of shampoo, can ease someone’s burden just a little bit. Your skills can change the future for many.

Our programs are set up so almost anyone can participate in some way. Click on any of these links to see how best YOU can participate!

ICWA: Supporting the return of the children who were stolen and misplaced by the state, to their tribe, their relatives, their people.

BUILDING LIBRARIES: There are NO PUBLIC LIBRARIES on the reservations, and the schools do not provide the kind of material that supports the Lakota culture as well as history, laws, arts, and more! The children and communities have a right to see their own ways and history properly represented. Buy a book, movie or dvd! Click here to access our Wish List:

We are going to participate in rebuilding the Boys and Girls Club on one of the reservations. Bring your skills and/or enthusiasm, and lets rebuild for the children! Our Dream is to provide a library and media center! Come build with us! Call us at 203-256-9720 for more information!

TEACHING CLASSES: Do you have a skill that can be taught in one week, that will enable the people to remain on their land but pursue work from outside sources? We are looking for artists, webmasters, journalists, music teachers, craftsmen, automotive repair, carpentry, plumbing and more…YOU TELL US YOUR SKILL! If you want to teach a one week course let us know.

ANNUAL CLOTHING DRIVE: For the past four years, we have provided warm clothing to children on the reservations. We will continue this work all year long. Click here for information on where you can send clothing.
